Waiakea Water has positioned itself as a brand to reckon with amongst other major bottled water brands. The Waiakea water story can be traced from 2012 when the brand was founded as the first Hawaiian volcanic water, according to Gust. Since its inception, the brand has been operating under an outstanding platform of sustainable, healthy and ethical/ charitable initiatives and attributes.
Last year, the company proudly revealed a 5000 % growth since its inception. It also announced that its water product was also available in an additional 2000 stores in about 30 states around the United States.
Where does Waiakea get its water
Waiakea sources its water from Mauna Loa’s snowy peak. Maua Loa is globally renowned as the largest subaerial volcano. The water formed from the rain on the peak and the snowmelt undergoes a natural filtration process through porous volcanic rock, which is thousands of feet. The finished product after filtration is not only rich in essential minerals but also electrolytes. The Waiakea water is also naturally alkaline. This combination gives the water a unique sweet finish before emerging at the source. Rich forest preserves engulf the Waiakea spring.
New You says that Waiakea water ensures all its operations adhere to the Hawaiian notion and practice of “malam i ka aina”, which means to respect and care for the land. The brand also boasts of close ties with the Ecometrica and The CarbonNeutral companies, which are two of the globe’s premier emissions consultants. By working together, Waiakea has managed to measure and minimize the environmental impact of its business and product to zero.
The Waiakea water company has also adopted and implemented various environmental initiatives. Some of them include using only 100% RPET bottles, drawing water from the most sustainable fresh water sources in the globe, actively taking part in regional reforestation initiatives and using low emission shipping. As such, Waiakea is the first Hawaiian bottled water brand to be certified CarbonNeutral®.
Apart from its naturally delicious and healthy water, The Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water company is also renowned for its altruism. In August 2016, the company unveiled a successful sponsorship of about six elephant pumps in rural Malawi. Waiakea instituted this initiative through its collaboration with Pump Aid. The pumps were donated with the aim of assisting marginalized communities to get clean water. Since the pumps were donated, they have brought several positive impacts including fewer water-born illnesses, more school going children, increased local employment and more nutritious food.
